I looked at the Godin guitars online and still may wind up buying one if the LTD doesn't work out. Ordered the GR-55 yesterday so thanks to you when it arrives I'll know not to use my Gretsch. This will be my first venture into a midi sync and I thought the better the guitar the better it would sound, but your comments showed me that's not necessarily true. Never thought about the GK-3 possibly damaging the finish on my Gretsch, so I definitely won't be using it for midi. I wound up getting a Godin as well and then abandoned the whole idea. Never got it to the point of perfection, working with endless tweaking was my best result, but I do know others that had much better luck than I. I tried numerous times to make a stick on pickup work well. Maybe someone else knows of a better way to mount the midi pickup without taking a chance on damaging your Gretsch. This being said, I would either buy a midi equipped guitar or put the GK-3 on a guitar that's less valuable than your vintage Gretsch. All the guitar has to do is stay in tune and play comfortably. The type of guitar has no effect on midi sound. I had one on my Les Paul and it worked fine but I ended up buying a Godin guitar with a built in midi pickup and it worked a little bit better. Your regular pickups don't work in the GR55's programs only the midi one feeds it. I probably wouldn't want to take a chance onruining the finish of my vintage Gretsch if I were you. For other guitars the pickup mounts with a piece of 2 way tape. The pickup will clamp on to guitars with a stop tailpiece e.g. You are going to need the GK-3 midi pickup unless you already have another 13 pin midi installed.

Do I need this pickup? If I do, is it a clamp-on or do I have to permanently install it? Does the Gretsch pickups and toggle selectors work well with a unit like this? Sounds like a cool device and with cyber week coming up I'm considering getting myself one. I understand they offer 2 models- one with and one without a GK-3 pickup.
